On Sunday morning I began a series of messages that I have entitled, "One Way." I am praying that these messages will prepare me and our church for Awaken 2014 that will begin on Sunday morning September 21. My friend Evangelist Jon Reed will be with us for a series of meetings in which we hope God will awaken us and our city for Christ.
The first message was entitled, "Peace, in a Crazy Upside Down World" and we looked at Jesus' words to His disciples in John 14:1-6.
TEXTUAL IDEA: Jesus assured his disciples that they could find complete peace in Him.
SERMON IDEA: You can have peace in Christ in our crazy, upside down world.
How can I have peace in Christ in our crazy, upside down world?
This text shows us four ways we can find peace in Christ in our crazy, upside down world.
I. We can have peace because of the person of Christ (1).
John 8:58: Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
John 10:30: I and My Father are one.”
Hebrews 1:2-3a: has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person.
II. We can have peace because of the place of Christ (2).
John 13:36: Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.”
Hebrews 11:16: But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
III. We can have peace because of the promise of Christ (3).
Acts 1:10-11: And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
1 Thessalonians 4:17: Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
IV. We can have peace because of the position of Christ (5-6).
John 10:1: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
Hebrews 10:20: by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh.
John 1:17: For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:21: if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus.
John 6:47: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.
1 John 2:25: And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
We had a great night of ministry at the University of Georgia's Baptist Collegiate Ministries. Our church fed over 50 college students and encouraged them to worship with us on Sunday mornings. Click here to view some pics from the night.
